I am a writer who specialises in music and visual arts. I have written for many UK-based publications, including the NME, Guardian, Index on Censorship and the New Statesman. Formerly a music critic for The Times and culture correspondent for the Independent on Sunday, I currently write for The Wire, Musicworks, New Internationalist, Tempo and Museums Journal. I am also an assessor for Arts Council England. I am an AHRC-funded (through the TECHNE programme) doctoral student at CRiSAP (Creative Research into Sound Arts Practice) at the London College of Communication, the University of the Arts London, working on post-1945 female experimental composers.
My No-Nonsense Guide to World Music was published by New Internationalist in 2009. I am based in London.
